About Us

The South Australian Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs was incorporated in 1977 to represent the interests of recreational four wheel drive clubs in South Australia. That association eventually became Four Wheel Drive South Australia Inc. (FWDSA) in 2011.

Our Association promotes responsible and sustainable 4WD use and camping through member education and activities.

We work closely with the Department of Environment and Water, as well as Friends of Parks and Nature to help maintain access to public lands and preserve and maintain the SA environment and resources through volunteer efforts.

We are a non-profit association, staffed and supported by our member 4WD clubs.

We are affiliated with Four Wheel Drive Australia, which represents the interests of recreational 4WD users across Australia.

We actively support the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Natural Resources Advisory Unit

The NRAU advises the association on matters pertaining to the environment and 4WD access.

It prepares submissions to SA government bodies and presents the views of the association on environmental and access issues.

The NRAU supports affiliated clubs volunteering in environmental protection and remediation work in parks, pastoral lands and coastal environments through grants and collaboration. This includes pest plant eradication programmes, beach clean ups and remote track and campsite maintenance.

Insurance

Four Wheel Drive SA, through its affiliation with Four Wheel Drive Australia, provides Public Liability and Personal Accident coverage to members on trips and Professional Indemnity/Directors Liability coverage to club leadership.

This provides cost savings when compared to clubs purchasing insurance separately.

Driver Education Unit

The DEU provides four wheel driving education materials and coordinates with members on training events.

It has developed a 4WD Reference Manual and Checklist to aid clubs in providing training their members.

FWDSA has historically provided exclusive access to members to a property at Morgan for training purposes. It is currently unavailable, with efforts underway by 4WDSA to restore access.
