4WD OCTOBERFEST 2013 @ Willangi Bush Escapes – A 4WD club success story

Mount Lofty Rangers Inc “4WD Club” held their bi-annual 4WD Octoberfest Event, on the October long weekend 2013, at Willangi Bush Escapes, Peterborough.

Approximately 80 4WD vehicles, totalling 180 people, from various four wheel drive clubs converged on the main campsite area on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.  Clubs in attendance included the Nissan Patrol Club of South Australia, Adelaide Jeep Club, 4wd Adventurers Club of South Australia, Border Country 4wd Club, Central Hills 4wd Club, Range Rover Club of South Australia, Whyalla and Districts 4WD Club, Southern Explorers 4WD Club, Northern 4wd Club of SA and Mount Lofty Rangers Inc.

Day trips on the Saturday and Sunday included trips to areas such as Bendleby Ranges, Horseshoe Rim, Horseshoe Rim North End, Willangi Bush Escapes Millers Property and Grants Hills, Carinya Escapes, Bartagunyah and a private property called Black Rock Peak.

A local Adelaide band ‘Strickland Road’, featuring 3 Mount Lofty Rangers members in the line up, gave everyone the opportunity on Saturday night to turn a dirt paddock into an excellent dance floor.

Sunday night was the night for all to show their ‘Master Chef prowess.   Entries included creations such as stews, casseroles, roasts and many types of different deserts. The Banana choc boat, and Choc self saucing pudding were big hits!

When darkness fell it was time for the adventurous to partake in a Night Nav (navigation) run.  All participants were to follow a map to find certain locations.  They then needed to mark these locations with a GPS then answer some questions along the route as well.

In the shearing shed the children were entertained by a big screen movie night, complete with surround sound, dual sub woofer, fresh pop corn, show bags and lollies.

I attended as a participant but as Vice President of 4WDSA, strongly recommend this long week end to all of you when the Rangers run it again in two years’ time.
